Contact us

We encourage you to get in touch with us for meaningful collaboration on issues pertaining to Black medical students. We get many requests for collaboration and unfortunately, we cannot support all initiatives. We ask that you consider our guiding principles below before you send us a request

Please Note

  • We are medical students first and foremost, and our activism and advocacy are unpaid work in addition to our very busy schedules. Please keep this in mind in terms of expectations and timelines.
  • Anti-essentialism: No two Black people are the same and experience the world in the exact same way. We are not and should not be expected to be experts on anything beyond our personal experience. We do not speak for all Black people.
  • Intersectionality: Black people are not a monolith and have expertise in many areas beyond experiences of racism. We can also be women, immigrants, queer, and so much more. We encourage you to also reach out for opportunities related to medicine that do not solely pertain to Blackness or “diversity.”
  • We do not respond to requests that can be addressed by a google search. Before you send us a request for information or to be connected with an expert, please ensure this information is not easily found on the internet.
  • Relevance: Proximity should not be the reason for reaching out. We will respond to requests for meaningful engagement only, i.e. if it does not pertain to Black Medical Students specifically or our organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values, we reserve the right to decline involvement
  • Minority tax is a form of institutionalized racism. Black people must be compensated for their time spent improving institutions especially if they are being tasked with these initiatives only by virtue of their identity. Please consider how you can compensate students if you are seeking their involvement in panel discussions, committees, and working groups.
  • We are a non-profit, so we do not accept payment for services but honorariums to compensate students are welcome and we accept donations through our donations link.
