To secure equitable representation of Black students in Canadian medical schools and to advocate for more inclusive medical training that equips all learners to better serve the healthcare needs of underserved Black communities across Canada.

A message from the chair
"A child who is not embraced by the village will burn the village just to feel its warmth." We are reminded by those who came before us about the importance of belonging. Imagine yourself being the only one who looks like you in medicine, carrying not only your aspirations but also the hopes and dreams of your family, your community and the generations of Black students who will follow. Thankfully, we don't have to go through this path alone anymore. It is truly a privilege to live in a time where we now have a large community of black medical students that support one another and that is supported by our community. I am truly grateful and honoured that our members selected me to represent their interests to the medical community and beyond.
We are truly proud of the profound dedication and hard work that our members and partners continue to demonstrate throughout the years. Can you believe that an organization that started in 2020 with 130 members now has more than quadrupled in the last 5 years? In these years, our members and partners have promoted our growth so that we have a community where we share resources and exchange mentorship.
We find ourselves at a pivotal moment, one in which the value of equity and representation in medicine is increasingly being challenged. As our neighbours to the south roll back initiatives such as affirmative action, many Black students have been left wondering whether they truly belong in these spaces or whether the progress achieved over the past decades can be sustained. It is precisely during moments like these that community becomes our greatest strength. With this in mind, our members chose this year's advocacy theme: Advancing Black Scholarship and Leadership in Medicine. More than a slogan, this theme reflects our commitment to fostering environments where Black medical students are not only welcomed, but are empowered to thrive, lead, and shape the future of medicine. It reminds us that our response to uncertainty is not retreat, but continued excellence, advocacy, and support for one another. My fellow members and our partners, thank you for believing in this vision. Together, let us continue building a future where every Black medical student is empowered to belong, to lead, and to inspire those who follow.
