CURRENT INITIATIVES

Preparing for CaRMS interviews can be both exciting and nerve-wracking — but you don’t have to do it alone. Join the BMSAC for two evenings of mock interview preparation, led by a diverse team of peers, residents, and physicians who have successfully navigated the CaRMS process themselves.

Participants will have the opportunity to practice in small-group and one-on-one settings, simulating both traditional and MMI-style interviews. Each session offers personalized feedback, practical interview strategies, and a supportive environment where you can refine your responses and build confidence.

This event is designed to empower Black medical students to show up authentically, articulate their strengths with clarity, and approach interviews with calm, confidence, and purpose.

Come prepared, leave empowered — and ready to put your best self forward this CaRMS season. Sign up open until November 17 2025

Interview season can feel overwhelming — but preparation makes all the difference. The BMSAC invites Black students and students from other equity-seeking communities to join us for our Mock MMI Night, a supportive and interactive preparation event designed to help you excel in your medical school interviews.

Led by medical students, residents, and physicians, this session will simulate realistic MMI stations and provide personalized feedback on your performance. Participants will gain practical strategies for structuring answers, demonstrating self-awareness, and approaching ethical or situational questions with confidence and composure.

This event offers a culturally safe & encouraging environment where aspiring medical students can learn, & practice, together.

Come ready to engage, refine your skills, & take one step closer to achieving your dream of becoming a physician. Sign up to be a facilitator here!

atlantic MMI INTERVIEW PREP:

The Competency-Oriented Mastery in Project Design, Appraisal, Synthesis, and Scholarship (COMPASS) Program is a flagship initiative of the BMSAC. This 12-week structured research program is designed to empower Black medical students to build strong foundations in scholarly research and academic writing.

Through a combination of interactive lectures, guided mentorship, and small-group collaboration, participants will learn how to develop a research question, design a systematic review protocol, conduct literature searches, and synthesize findings into a publishable manuscript. Sessions are led by experienced librarians, researchers, residents, and faculty mentors who are passionate about supporting equity in academia.

The COMPASS Program provides a supportive and inclusive learning environment where participants can gain practical research skills, expand their academic networks, and contribute to meaningful scholarship that amplifies diverse perspectives in medicine.
